Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for New Students:

What Should My Child Wear for Their First Class?
For the first few dance classes, students can wear comfortable clothing such as leggings and a T-shirt or a skirt and top for ballet. Please avoid jeans or corduroy pants, as they are not suitable for movement.

As a BBODance accredited school, we require students to wear Tiptoes & Tappers regulation uniform for classes and exams. We recommend avoiding dancewear from supermarkets or sportswear shops, especially for items like ballet shoes.

Trial Class Footwear:

  • Ballet: Bare feet or socks with grippers
  • Tap: School or hard-soled shoes (no trainers)
  • Contemporary: Bare feet
  • Musical Theatre: Bare feet or socks with grippers

After one month of classes, students should wear the correct dance uniform for all lessons.

Should I Stay with My Child During Classes?
We encourage parents to watch their child’s first class. However, after the trial, we ask that you refrain from entering the studio to maintain a focused environment. Having parents in the class can sometimes cause confusion for children, as they may not know who to take instruction from.

If you’re attending the trial class, please ensure that only one parent accompanies your child, and avoid chatting to other parents or your child during the session.

Dance Class Registration & Uniform Requirements | Tiptoes & Tappers

Dance Class Registration

After your child’s trial class at Tiptoes & Tappers, the dance class registration process is simple and can be completed through our bookings page. Fill out the necessary details, and your child will be ready to continue with our dance classes.

If you decide not to continue after the trial, please email us to release any spaces held for your child. However, if your child enjoys their dance classes and you wish to move forward, just complete the registration and set up your standing order.

Dance Uniform Requirements

At Tiptoes & Tappers, we follow the BBODance syllabus for ballet and musical theatre, and the International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA) syllabus for tap, contemporary, and modern jazz (including lyrical). To maintain the highest standards of technique and presentation, we require all students to wear the Tiptoes & Tappers regulation uniform for all classes and exams.

Dance Class Invoice & Payment Information | Tiptoes & Tappers

Invoice & Payment Details

After completing your online registration, you will receive an automated email with the payment details for Tiptoes & Tappers. We offer monthly payments via Standing Order (SO), with the annual fees divided into 12 equal payments.

If you join mid-year, you will be required to set up a Standing Order for the remaining months of the year, with payments continuing until August.

Tiptoes & Tappers is a proud approved examination centre for BBODance and the International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA), ensuring that all of our dance exams meet the highest standards of dance education and provide a comprehensive learning experience for all students.

Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Checks & Child Protection

At Tiptoes & Tappers, the safety and well-being of all our students is our top priority. We ensure that every teacher undergoes DBS checks to maintain a safe and secure environment for your child.

We also adhere to strict Child Protection Policies, and a copy of our Child Protection Policy Guidelines is available upon request. First Aid Certificates & Dance Sport Injury Training | Tiptoes & Tappers

At Tiptoes & Tappers, we prioritize the health and safety of every student. Our team, including Rachael Osborne, Penny Simons, and all our dance instructors, holds current first aid certificates and has received specialized training in dance sport injury prevention. This ensures we provide a safe and secure environment for your child during every dance class.

Rachael Osborne serves as the official First Aid Officer, overseeing all health and safety protocols and ensuring that our school maintains the highest standards of student care.

 

Dance Exams at Tiptoes & Tappers

At Tiptoes & Tappers, we offer BBODance and IDTA accredited dance exams annually, giving students the opportunity to advance in their dance education. Exams are offered based on the teacher’s assessment that the student is ready to progress to the next level. Not all students will take exams in every session, as exams are only offered when a student has demonstrated sufficient skill and readiness.

Once your child is eligible for an exam, you will receive an email with all the important details, including the exam schedule and any necessary forms. Students will also be invited to attend extra practice classes, at no additional cost, to support their exam preparation. These extra classes are designed to help refine technique and build confidence in the lead-up to the exam.

As the exam date approaches, you will receive further communication with your child’s exact exam time and school protocol for exam day, ensuring that everyone is well-prepared for this important milestone.
