Pre Primary Ballet:
When learning pre-primary ballet at roughly 6 years and up students are taught set exercises focusing on classical technique and the foundations of correct classical posture. The pupils dance ability is increased at a steady and structured pace as well their technical understanding and vocabulary. After a year to 18 months pupils are assessed to see if they are at the required level to take an exam or assessment.
Primary Ballet is for children aged around 7 – 9 years of age (depending on when they started ballet and natural ability). The syllabus Introduces barre work and a more intricate centre exercises. Correct posture is introduced to promote a safe and effective dance practise. There is a greater emphasis on technical ability from Primary onwards.
Grade 1 – 3 Ballet:
Grade 1 ballet and upwards introduces not only more technically demanding barre and centre work but an application of the correct posture and turn out for ballet. Students are expected to have a strong technical vocabulary along with the ability to execute the more demanding syllabus. Grade 1 – 3 ballet graded exams are OFQUAL accredited and examined at a very high standard. Performance awards are available for students taking a more relaxed approach to ballet. From Grade one forwards Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) is introduced to aid a dancers technique and to help prevent injury (through incorrect technique or lack of strength).
Pre Primary Tap
Pre Primary Tap is the foundation for a strong and intricate tap technique, this syllabus promotes strong rhythm and encourages listening to music. A number of “build up” steps are taught in this grade to encourage a good use of ankle and strong technique when rising through the grades.
This syllabus builds on Pre Primary with basic British tap and progresses with instruction in American and Show tap incorporating complex movements developing pupils to a very high standard.
Grade 1 – 3 Tap
Grade 1 – 3 Tap teaches an intricate rhythmic tap, a strong technique, encourages a performance as well as promoting thinking on your feet (quite literally!). Grade 1, 2 & 3 tap includes some incredibly tricky work, complex rhythms and trains a tapper to a very high standard.
Tiptoes Jazz Classes
Tiptoes Jazz starts at 5 years. Jazz is a really fun free class that uses jazz and street dance moves.
The classes consist of a cardio warm up, followed by body stretching and a dance routine.
When children move into the older classes for 6 years + classes include basic body conditioning and a more strenuous stretch. Each term the class concentrates on a certain area of technical ability.
Jazz is a great as a fun class on its own for both boys and girls or as a supporting class to dancers taking classical ballet The stretching and core stability work helps with higher grade ballet technique. Jazz is a great class for physical fitness, strength training, flexibility and a great foundation for musical Theatre
Contemporary dance is an expressive style that incorporates styles of several different dance genres including Jazz, Modern and lyrical classical ballet. This is an excellent discipline for someone who enjoys exploring different types of movements.
